What is the process of obtaining a marriage license in NYC?

In order to make a marriage legal, you will have to obtain a license from the City Clerk of New York. The bride and groom must appear at one of the borough offices twenty four hours prior to the ceremony to fill out an Affidavit and Application for Marriage License. You will also have to provide a money order for the amount of $35 payable to the "City Clerk of New York" along with identification. Acceptable forms of identification include the following: a valid passport, driver's license, military ID, U.S. Certification of Naturalization, U.S. Alien Registration Card, and Employment Authorization Card. You will also have to provide personal details including your name, address, date of birth, social security number and marital history. A blood test is not required. Although the marriage license is issued immediately, the couple must wait twenty four hours before the ceremony to discourage hastily made marriage decisions. The license is valid for 60 days.
